Iranian documentary gets attention of IDFA audience

Iran doc ‘Beloved’ gains 2nd place among 300 contenders at the 2018 Int’l Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam.

Iranian documentary ‘Beloved’ by Yasser Talebi has so far been rated as the second best film from audience view at the 2018 edition of the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA).

Only five days of the IDFA have passed and first screening of ‘Beloved’ gained 9.2 points out of 10.

Reportedly, tickets for the second screening of ‘Beloved’ were sold out and the documentary was warmly welcomed by the audience. The viewers gave their positive feedbacks to the film during its Q&A session.

Considering his motivation to make the documentary, Talebi said “Love always go with a deliberate pain. In fact man is blind to the pain because of the power of love... exploring the secretes of Firouzeh's simple life, her deep insight into life, her relation to nature and her attachment to her cows were the main reasons of making the film.”

‘Beloved’ producer, Elaheh Nobakht, who is the international distributor of the film as well, believes screening this doc in the world's most important documentary festival is a great success.

The 63-minute doc is about the difficult but favorable life of an 82-year-old mother named Firouzeh who runs a unique life in the Alborz Mountains, north Iran.

Firouzeh hikes across the rugged landscape carrying bundles of wood. When she was a young girl, a marriage was arranged for her with an older man, with whom she had 11 children. Now, none of her children come to visit her and her attempts to get closer to them remain futile.

A US documentary with 9.5 points has topped the IDFA list thus far.

The IDFA aims to provide an independent and inspiring meeting place for audiences and professionals to see a diverse and high-quality program.

The winner of the five thousand Euros prize will be announced on 23 November.

The latest edition of the festival has been slated for November 14-25, 2018.
